Elaine was with the department at it’s inception in 1989. She has seen the department grow from four faculty members to almost forty. She attributes her longevity in T&D to wonderful colleagues and students--and a keen sense of humor.
Elaine received the College of Fine and Applied 2017-2018 Staff Award and she was recognized in 2012 with an Appalachian State University Staff Award. This annual Human Resource Services award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to campus life, for innovation that improves campus operations, or for dedication and service to the university. She received the Women of Influence Award from the ASU Women’s Center in 2011 for recognition for having gone "above and beyond" for others. In 1995 she was awarded the Staff Service Award and was also nominated for the Governor’s Award. In 1994, Theatre and Dance students initiated Elaine Day, an annual recognition of her service to the department, a tradition that is carried on to this day.
