Prior to joining the faculty at ASU in 2004, Melissa performed in NYC, appearing in numerous Off and Off-Off Broadway productions.  She has acted in film (including being directed byAcademy Award® winner Sterling van Wagenen),  tv, commercials, voiceovers, and industrials. A classically trained actress and singer, Melissa has performed in theatres across the country in touring shows and with such noted regional theatres as Arkansas Rep, Barter Theatre, Atlanta’s Shakespeare Tavern, Academy Theatre and Horizon Theatre.  Favorite roles she has performed are Kate in The Taming of the Shrew, Irene Molloy in Hello, Dolly! and Mary Middleton in Barry Manilow’s musical, The Drunkard.
