Approved 3.15.2014

1.  All tenure track faculty members are eligible to apply for an Off Campus Scholarly Assignment (OCSA).

  • All requests and projects must follow the current faculty handbook and departmental guidelines.
  • All tenure track faculty members who have served a minimum of 4 years are eligible to apply; preference will be given to tenured faculty.
  • No more than one OCSA for a faculty member within a 6-year period will be considered.

2.  Deadlines for applying for an OCSA:

  • Fall semester OCSA applications are due to the chair by the previous December of the desired fall OCSA. Due to scheduling needs, this advance time is needed for departmental consideration at the first meeting of the spring semester.
  • For spring semester OCSA applications are due to the chair no later than April of the previous spring semester, in time to be considered at the last departmental meeting of the year.

3.  Proposals for an OCSA must include the following information:

  • A description of the overall plan that is consistent with current university guidelines.
  • The purpose of the assignment, the site and nature of the work, and the type of product that will be produced by the end of the assignment. Include direct and indirect benefits for the students, faculty, department, and/or university.

4.  Departmental considerations will be based on:

  • Longevity of the faculty member
  • Recency and productivity of the faculty member’s previous OCSA’s
  • How the OCSA project supports and/or relates to the departmental mission
