Chris Yon is a North Carolina based choreographer, teacher, and performer. His dances have been presented at the American Dance Festival, Dance Theater Workshop, Performance Space 122, La Mama, Symphony Space, Walker Art Center, The Southern Theater, Bryant Lake Bowl, Philadelphia Dance Project, ODC Theater, Velocity Dance Center, Pieter, Project Art Centre, Tangente, CiteDanse, and Legion Arts. Yon's work has been commissioned by The Wooden Floor (Santa Ana), The Danish National School for Performing Arts (Copenhagen), Irish Modern Dance Theatre (Dublin), and d9 dance collective (Seattle). Performance credits include work with and for Ann Carlson, Yoshiko Chuma, David Neumann, Karinne Keithley Syers, Basil Twist, and Kristin Van Loon. He is the recipient of a 2003 NYFA Fellowship for Performance Art, a 2005 BESSIE Award for Performance, a 2009 SAGE Award for Choreography, a 2011 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Choreography, and was named Best Choreographer in the 2015 Minneapolis City Pages. Chris lives in Statesville with his wife and collaborator Taryn Griggs and their daughter Beatrix.
